Adjudicator Spotlight: Rosemary Field FRCO, LRAM, ARCM, HonARSCM, HonFGCM

Rosemary Field (b 1957) has spent her working life in the church, both as a practitioner and as a teacher and encourager of other people’s gifts. She trained at the RCM with the late Nicholas Danby and won the College prizes for organ playing, and for written harmony. At the St Albans Festival subsequently, she reached the Improvisation final, and was awarded the Tournemire medal.

Now, Rosemary is Director of Music at Worksop Priory, following redundancy from the RSCM, for which she worked from 2012 to 2021, first as Deputy Director and latterly as Head of Organ Studies. Her first book of Études is available from the RSCM, as are some simple anthems, and an entire cycle of Psalmody.

Rosemary’s most recent work as an adjudicator has been for a Festival in Chertsey.  This work is supported by over 40 years’ experience of teaching the organ to pupils of every age, from teenagers to working and retired adults, from first lesson to FRCO prep, guiding both confident and “reluctant” organists.  Rosemary has also taught groups of organists on RSCM courses and at St Giles International Organ School Summer Schools. She worked in the Sussex/Hampshire area between 1995 and 2005, first as a Pallant Trust employee in an area centred on Portsmouth, and then in a hybrid task as Cathedral Sub-Organist and Diocesan Music Adviser – a combination she had pioneered previously in Birmingham.

Rosemary has broadcast on Radio 3 Choral Evensong and features on recordings from Portsmouth.  She is in demand as an accompanist around the East Midlands, and has a portfolio of composition to offer (some via Chichester Music Press).

At leisure, she may be found battling the weeds in her little border under the 18th century cottage window overlooking the village church, or staring at the RAF rehearsing overhead, or learning the harp.

We are delighted to welcome Jenny to adjudicate the Speech ad Drama section at the 70th Annual Festival.
