Festival News

This “Welcome” is written on a hot day on in July 2020 after having experienced the worst pandemic in a hundred years! Covid-19 drew our Festival to a sudden halt on 8th March having started on 1st February.  All classes apart from Choirs took place and sadly our Festival Concert was cancelled.  It was a difficult decision to cancel but we all realise in hindsight this was the right decision to make as time has proved.

We are now looking ahead to 2021 and we are hoping to pick up the pieces to “get the show on the road”.    Hopefully the vaccination programme will be successful but we must be prepared for some changes regarding ‘distancing’ and changing arrangements which will be addressed and clearly outlined beforehand – we are guided by BIFF which is the British International Federation of Festivals of which our Festival is a long-standing member.  Please be guided by your section leader if you have any specific queries regarding your entries.  Contact numbers are in the syllabus.  Our main concern is for the safety of both our competitors and our audience.

We have some changes to our committee since holding our Zoom AGM on 10th June.  Zoom has been a great way to communicate to keep in contact and maintain stability.  We welcome Christopher Johnson as leader of the Pianoforte section who has taken over from Alison Blenkinsop who did a stirling job over the past two years.  We all wish her well and thank her for all her hard work and kindness.  We also welcome Sue Bethel who will be joining the Dance committee headed by Angela Watkins as Section Leader.

I have often said that we are a hard-working committee and are eager for everyone to get the most out of our Festival whether you are a performer, teacher or spectator.   As soon as one Festival is over plans are laid for the following year to ensure a memorable experience for all!  Please bear with us and feel free to keep in contact and I look forward to seeing you all in 2021.

Kind regards and best wishes
