A very big welcome to our 67th Chichester Festival of Music, Dance & Speech.
Running the Festival in our normal !live"#way was not possible in 2021 and, at the time of writing this “Chairman’s Welcome”, we find ourselves having to cope with the new Covid-19 Omicron variant and all the consequences it brings to the performing arts. We will be following all the latest government advice to safely put on our live 2022 Festival. All of our performers, parents, carers and supporters visiting this year’s Festival will be asked to follow the latest guidelines which will be updated via our website at http://cfmds.org.uk and also communicated to all entrants via email.
A very special welcome also to our eleven exceptional adjudicators who will encourage and inspire candidates with professional feedback and motivation in all of our class sections. This year’s syllabus offered 460 performing arts classes and I’m delighted to welcome the 1,233 entrants who will participate in the Festival. I would also like to say thank you for all the hard work of parents, grandparents, carers, teachers and piano accompanists who have prepared and supported the candidates entering this year’s Festival.
I am delighted that the Festival’s Dance Class, run by section leader Angela Watkins, is now a nominated “All England Dance” festival where candidates may qualify for the AED area finals by entering the classes offered at Chichester Festival for Music, Dance & Speech.
Our Festival Committee were all saddened with the news that one of our long supporting Patrons, John Rank, passed away in September 2021. John was a great benefactor and supporter of our Festival, attending many of our performing arts classes and concerts. He will be sadly missed for his interest and encouragement to our Festival and the performing arts in general.
I would also like to thank our hard working Festival Committee and all of our voluntary helpers who give up their time to organise the many tasks, including the management of venues, adjudicators, candidates, merchandise, certificates, cups and medals etc.
The culmination of the Festival will be our Festival Concert at the Minerva Theatre on Saturday 19th March. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase and celebrate outstanding performers from each section to our Patrons and generous supporters. Do please make a diary note to attend and I look forward to seeing you there !
With all good wishes,
ALCM, LLCM(TD), MISM
I am delighted to announce that Kate Mosse, the internationally renowned author, has agreed to become a Patron. Kate, who lives in Chichester and actually entered some of our classes when still at school, is keen to support our Festival and we look forward to seeing her at some of our classes and concerts.
